ZulfI Syed hails from the royal lineage of the erstwhile ruler of Mysore, Tipu Sultan, and learnt about the recipes, indigenous spices and herbs from his mother and grandparents who inherited the exotic culinary legacy of the dynasty of Sultan Hyder Ali-Tipu Sultan. Zulfi earned his Bachelor’s in Hotel Management from Bangalore University. In 1997, he won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and represented India in Singapore for the world title in which he was declared the runner-up. Bollywood inevitably came calling. He played the stellar role of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in Akbar Khan’s Taj Mahal. After making a mark as a model and an actor, Zulfi returned to his passion of cooking. The Royal Table: From The House of Sultan Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, Zulfi’s first book pays tribute to an era long forgotten through the culinary heritage of Mysore’s royal household.
