Samaresh Basu

Samaresh Basu (1924–88) adopted two nom-de-plumes—Kalkut and Bhramar—wrote 200 short stories and 100 novels; two of which were banned, for a short spell, on charges of obscenity. Also called “the most representative story writer of Bengal’s suburban life,” drawing substantially from his own life, Basu lived and observed experiences ‘half urban, half rural’ of life in Kolkata.
