RK Narayan

RK Narayan (1906–2001), together with Raja Rao and Mulk Raj Anand formed an alliance that compelled the English to take writing from India seriously. Almost all of Narayan’s works are set in a small fictional South Indian town called Malgudi. Simple narratives with humour that do not miss out on insights into the lives of his characters make his writings eminently readable. 15 novels, six collections of short stories, eight works of non-fiction and three books of reflections on Hindu mythology, complete the author’s repertoire.
